For most of the walk the sky stayed flat and silver. Then, close to the footbridge, a narrow opening appeared below the cloud and the water caught it all at once.
The colour lasted less than five minutes. The rail threw long shadows across the boards, the underside of the bridge stayed cool and blue, and every small ripple carried a thin copper edge.
Nothing in the route changed, but the return felt like a different path. Dusk has a way of editing a familiar place without moving anything.
